ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Wednesday approved increase in power tariff.
In a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar, the ECC approved hike in power tariff which is subject to a final approval by the federal cabinet.
According to sources, a hike of Rs1.18 per unit was approved. The hike would not apply to households with electricity usage of 300 units or less. For households with 300-700 units usage, a 10 percent increase was approved, while for households with usage of more than 700 units, a 15 percent hike was decided.
Minister Asad Umar guaranteed that the “power tariff has been hiked below the level of expectations.” However, he refrained from sharing the exact numbers.
